The Best Places for Families with Children
Kashubia is a true paradise for young explorers. It combines natural beauty, tradition, and creative attractions that engage the whole family. Here’s a list of the most interesting places worth visiting with kids – we guarantee there’s no room for boredom here!
🌳 The Center for Education and Regional Promotion in Szymbark
This is one of the most unique places in Kashubia! Kids will love stepping inside the famous Upside-Down House, walking through the underground bunker of the Pomeranian Griffin resistance movement, and seeing the world’s longest wooden plank (over 36 meters!). You can also try baking bread by hand, explore traditional Kashubian houses, and even sit behind the wheel of an old Soviet tank. This place teaches history and tradition through fun – perfect for curious children (and adults too!).
🐑 Kashubian Park of Miniatures and Giants (Strysza Buda / Mirachowo)
A unique theme park that combines learning with a big dose of laughter. In the miniature section, you’ll see detailed replicas of famous buildings from around the world – from the Eiffel Tower to the Statue of Liberty. Right next door awaits the Park of Giants, where kids can come face-to-face with a giant hammer, oversized glasses, and huge insects. Additional attractions like the Fairy Tale Land and the Hall of Laughter make it hard to leave. It’s a big hit with little visitors!
🏰 The Castle in Bytów
A real journey back in time! This well-preserved Teutonic Knights’ castle lets you feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. Guided tours are engaging and adapted for children – with stories about knights, castle secrets, and everyday life from centuries past. During the tourist season, workshops for kids are organized, where they can try ancient crafts or create their own knight’s shield.
🛶 Boat Cruises on Lake Ostrzyckie or Lake Wdzydze
Nothing is more relaxing and enchanting than a peaceful cruise on one of Kashubia’s lakes. From the deck, you can admire charming shorelines, water birds, and green islands. For more active families, there are also pedal boats, kayaks, and rowboats for rent. An ideal way to spend a lazy afternoon with children.
🧀 Museum of the Kashubian Ethnographic Park in Wdzydze Kiszewskie
This is the oldest open-air museum in Poland, spread over dozens of hectares. Kids can see how old Kashubian houses, schools, windmills, and churches used to look. In summer, live demonstrations of traditional crafts are held, such as bread baking, Kashubian pattern painting, and wagon rides. For many families, this is their favorite history lesson – without classroom walls!
🧗 The Lookout Tower on Wieżyca Hill
This is the highest peak in Pomerania (329 meters above sea level) with a lookout tower offering an impressive panorama of Kashubia. For kids, climbing to the top feels like a mini mountain adventure, and the reward is breathtaking views. Nearby, you’ll also find a rope park and hiking trails perfect for a family walk.
🐴 Agrotourism Farms with Attractions for Kids
Kashubia has plenty of places where children can spend time close to nature. Farms like Kaszubska Ostoja or Stajnia Kolano offer contact with animals (horses, goats, chickens), pony rides, small playgrounds, bonfires, and workshops. It’s a great alternative for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle and experience rural life up close.
Outdoor Activities
Kashubia is an ideal destination for families who enjoy being active and close to nature. Wide forests, rolling hills, and numerous lakes make outdoor fun easy – without crowds and far from city noise. Here are some tried and tested ideas for shared adventures:
🥾 Hiking in the Kashubian Landscape Park
This is the heart of Kashubian nature – full of forests, lakes, hills, and valleys. Hiking trails are well-marked and vary in difficulty, so you’ll easily find something suitable even for little walkers. Especially recommended are the areas around Lake Białe, the Radunia River valley, and the forest paths near Sierakowice and Mirachowo. You can combine your walk with a picnic – many places offer shelters and campfire spots.
🌲 Forest Walks, Berry Picking, and Mushroom Foraging
From June to September, Kashubian forests turn into a real paradise for nature lovers. Walking with a basket in hand is a great way to teach kids how to recognize plants and mushrooms. They’ll learn patience, focus, and… how to enjoy small finds. Blueberries, wild strawberries, raspberries – all growing within reach! Just remember to bring mosquito repellent and comfortable shoes.
🚴 Family-Friendly Cycling Routes (e.g., around Lake Raduńskie)
Kashubia offers many scenic cycling routes perfect for families. One of the most beautiful is the trail around Lake Raduńskie – leading through forests, fields, and small villages, with stunning views of the water and hills. The route is gentle, partly paved, with plenty of spots for rest and even a swim. Many local towns have bike rental services, including child seats, so you don’t need to bring your own gear.
