Tatry - family holidays in the mountains

Easy Difficulty Trails
It's important to focus on trails that are short, well-maintained, and have minimal elevation gains. Ideal for families with children, these trails do not require advanced physical preparation.

This is one of the most beautiful and easiest trails in the Western Tatras. The path is wide, paved, and leads through a picturesque valley full of interesting rock formations. The hike can end at the Mroźna Cave or at the Kościeliska Valley Shelter.
Chochołowska Valley
This is one of the longest valleys in the Tatras, but the trail itself is relatively flat and gentle. It's an ideal route for a family walk. The views of the surrounding peaks and meadows, especially in spring when crocuses bloom, are unforgettable.

This short and easy trail leads to one of the most charming waterfalls in the Tatras. The water in Siklawica falls from a height of 20 meters, and the trail is well-maintained, making it a great attraction for children.
Scenic Trails
It’s also worth considering trails that offer beautiful views that will interest the whole family.

While the trail to Wielka Krokiew is not very difficult, an additional attraction is the chairlift or funicular ride to the top. Children love this place, and the views of Zakopane and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking.
Educational Trails
Children can learn about the nature and history of the Tatras on certain trails. It’s worth recommending trails that offer educational boards or lead to interesting places.
Trail in the Białe Valley
A short, easy ascent, but with many attractions in the form of beautiful waterfalls and educational boards about nature conservation. This is also a great opportunity to teach children how to care for the environment.

This short trail leads through the valley and is enriched with educational boards explaining the development of the Tatra fauna and flora, as well as how to protect nature.
General Recommendations and Safety
When planning family hikes in the Tatras, it's important to consider not only attractions but also safety—especially when traveling with children. Here are some practical tips:
Choosing the Right Equipment:
Make sure to have comfortable shoes with good grip – this is essential for a safe hike. Children should also have rain jackets, sun hats, and extra clothing suitable for the variable mountain weather.
Carrying Supplies:
On the trail, it’s good to have water, light snacks, and enough food for the whole day. A first aid kit with band-aids, bandages, insect bite treatments, and any medications for children is also necessary.
Safety Rules:
Check the weather forecast before heading to the mountains.
Avoid hiking in case of storms or strong winds.
Teach children what to do if they get lost (e.g., stay in place, don’t go further).
Always keep your phone charged and have the emergency number for the Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TOPR) saved: 985 or 601 100 300.
Choose trails suited to the abilities of the youngest participants.
Proper preparation is key to a safe and enjoyable family adventure in the Tatras!
