Holiday books and movies perfect for the whole family

Selection Criteria
When choosing books and movies for the holidays, especially those meant for the whole family, we focused on several important criteria. First and foremost, we wanted the suggestions to have universal themes that would appeal to both children and adults. Valuable messages were also crucial — those that teach empathy, friendship, and courage, while also being fun and engaging for hours.
Another aspect was accessibility for different age groups. We want every family member to find something enjoyable and appropriate in terms of content and form.
Convenience also matters on vacation — that's why the recommended books are usually light and portable, perfect for taking on a trip. As for the movies, we prefer titles available on popular streaming platforms that can be watched anywhere, at any time, even without an internet connection (after downloading in advance).
Book Recommendations
For the youngest
Children love books that transport them to magical worlds full of adventures and valuable lessons. We recommend classics such as The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry — a beautiful story about friendship and discovering the world — and The Children of Bullerbyn by Astrid Lindgren, which takes readers to a cheerful village full of childhood adventures. These titles are not only easy to read but also teach lifelong values.
For teenagers
Teenagers are drawn to more elaborate and engaging stories that spark imagination and emotions. Ideal choices are series like Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling — a magical saga about growing up and battling evil — and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, which takes readers to an extraordinary world full of fantastic characters and universal truths.
For adults and the whole family
We also have recommendations for books that can be enjoyed by everyone, from younger teenagers to adults. Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a touching story about acceptance and courage, perfect for shared reading and discussions. Meanwhile, the books of Joanna Chmielewska, combining humor, lightness, and fast-paced action, are perfect for holiday evenings, bringing smiles to the entire family.
Movie Recommendations
For the youngest
For young viewers, it's worth reaching for animated films full of color, humor, and positive messages. Frozen is not only a beautiful story about sisterly love but also a film full of heartwarming songs. Meanwhile, Toy Story is a classic animation that entertains and teaches about friendship and accepting change.
For teenagers
Teenagers will certainly appreciate fantasy and adventure films that fuel imagination and keep them entertained for hours. The Harry Potter series is a cult classic, full of magic and exciting events. The Lord of the Rings takes viewers to an epic world of heroism, friendship, and the battle between good and evil.
For the whole family
Movies that can be watched together and entertain and move viewers of all ages are a true treasure for holiday evenings. Paddington is a heartwarming and funny story about a bear from London that teaches the importance of family and openness to others. The Intouchables is a moving story of friendship between a disabled aristocrat and his caregiver — a film that combines humor with a profound message.
Ideas for Shared Viewing and Reading
Vacations are the perfect time to spend special moments with the family through books and movies. How can you turn this into a true event that brings everyone closer together? Here are a few simple ideas.
Movie or Reading Night
Choose a title that will interest everyone — it could be a film or a book from our recommendation list. Create a comfortable spot: pillows, a blanket, and snacks and drinks for the movie. For the kids, you could even set up a "home cinema" with tickets and lights. When reading aloud, try to get into the characters and give children the opportunity to ask questions or comment.
Activities for Books and Movies
After the viewing or reading, it's a great idea to organize additional activities that will reinforce the shared experience and provide great fun:
Quizzes and riddles about the plot and characters, which develop memory and perception.
Drawing favorite characters — let the children (and adults!) unleash their imagination and create their own illustrations.
Discussions and sharing opinions — it's a great opportunity to talk about the values in the book or movie, as well as get to know the perspectives of other family members.
Such shared activities not only make the time more enjoyable but also strengthen bonds and create beautiful memories for a lifetime.
