Short weekend trips are a great way to spend time creatively, especially when it involves discovering new parts of the world. It's also an ideal option for budget-friendly exploration of as many places as possible. But where to go for a short weekend trip? Firstly... City Break – What to See in Berlin?

How to Get to Berlin?

You can reach Berlin from Poland by car, train, bus, or plane. Besides these modes of transport, Berlin is also accessible via two waterways starting from the Oder River. The Southern Route passes through the Oder–Spree Canal, while the Northern Route includes the Oder–Havel Canal.

Within Berlin, you can move around using public transport—trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and the metro, which has 9 lines totaling almost 150 km in length.

Wondering what to see in Berlin in a day? Or perhaps what to see in Berlin over two days? Berlin is a city that can be explored both in one day or over several days, and today I'm bringing you some of the most interesting spots that are definitely worth visiting.

One of our blog authors, Julia, personally visited this intriguing city and prepared a list of many fascinating places for you.

Where to Stay During Your Visit to Berlin?

📍 Space Night Capsule Hostel - Leipziger Straße 45, Mitte, 10117 Berlin, Germany

This is the first recommendation straight from Julia. The start of the trip wasn't promising; the entrance was so off-putting that our author felt like escaping and wondered where she could find another accommodation at that hour. The negative first impression wasn't helped by the dirt, garbage underfoot, or broken stairs. Thankfully, the bad spell was broken upon entering the capsule hostel! A real cosmic experience, literally, as the interior is styled in such a manner. Besides its function as accommodation, this place is also an incredible attraction for children, teenagers, and adults alike!

Right next to the hostel, you'll find a delicious Chinese restaurant serving authentic Asian dishes at reasonable prices. The experience is enhanced by friendly service and... a robot singing 'Happy Birthday!'

What to Do with Kids in Berlin?

📍 Berlinische Galerie – National Museum for Modern Art, Photography, and Architecture

Berlinische Galerie is one of the newest museums in Berlin. Even the stairs there make a spectacular impression. The gallery houses many incredible works of art, with collections spanning from 1870 to the present. Most importantly, the museum offers a rich program for visually impaired visitors, known as tactile tours. The tours are based on dialogue with the guide, asking questions, but most importantly, touching models and materials. The artworks have been recreated in an interesting structure, using various materials like leather, plastic, metal, and wood. We can touch the art with our eyes closed, allowing us to experience it in a different, sensory dimension.

📍 German Spy Museum

Deutsches SpionagemuseumAn imaginative and interactive place dedicated to the history of espionage, offering curiosities and activities for children and adults around every corner. The entrance itself (through a tube) will impress agents of all ages!

In addition to many interesting exhibits and attractions, you can watch the most iconic spy movie scenes on screens and entire walls. Visitors can practice Morse code and encode their names, and that's just the start of the unforgettable experiences!

The most exciting attraction is on the first floor of the German Spy Museum.

In the laser maze, young agents have the task of navigating a corridor protected by a laser system. Parents can watch their children's efforts from the end of the corridor or on special screens through a thermal camera.

However, it's definitely the adults who will linger longer at the real exhibits, such as bra cameras, poisons, or spy cars, and delve into the fascinating history of espionage.
Exiting the museum, children can use a special ventilation shaft instead of stairs!

📍 Berlin Zoo

Zoologischer Garten Berlinis one of the largest zoological gardens in Germany, with the highest number of animal species worldwide. It was established in 1844, making it the first German zoo. On its 35 hectares, you'll find almost 14,000 animals from 1,500 different species. All enclosures are designed to closely mimic the natural environment of the zoo's inhabitants. In addition to the garden, one of Europe's largest aquariums is also available. You can witness spectacular animal feedings scheduled at specific times during your visit. This place will delight both the youngest children and those a bit older.

📍 Science Center at the German Museum of Technology

Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin - another fantastic spot I'd like to show you today. It features 4 floors with a total area of 1,400m², housing 150 stations with various experiments. It allows us to gain knowledge in natural sciences and technology. In 2013, the center underwent a major renovation, expanding the possibilities of exploring more attractions. There are many themed exhibitions, experimental stations, and exhibits prepared for both small and large explorers, which can be described as understandable and easy to use.

📍LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Berlin

Since we're talking about experimenting and discovering, it's worth mentioning the unique, indoor entertainment center, LEGOLAND. It's nothing short of a LEGO kingdom, designed for children aged 3-10. However, this doesn't mean it's a strict age limit imposed by the park, and children will only be admitted under the supervision of at least one adult. There aren't any giant rides here. The park offers play with iconic blocks, various workshops, and smaller rides than those known in famous amusement parks (e.g., LIKE THESE). In addition, LEGOLAND features Miniland, a wonderful playground, and LEGO® NINJAGO® City Adventure, a fantastic space where all Ninja fans can play.

What to Do in Berlin?

We've covered attractions for our youngest travelers, but it's also worth mentioning other spots on Berlin's map. As I mentioned earlier, Berlin is a place full of culture and history, so there are plenty of places to visit, and the list keeps growing.

📍Charlottenburg Palace

Schloss Charlottenburg – a beautiful baroque palace and park complex, considered one of Berlin's most beautiful architectural points, offering wonderful opportunities for exploration and fun for both children and adults. The palace gardens with fabulous fountains will captivate any traveler, while the exhibitions inside the castle will catch the attention of every visitor.

📍Museum of Natural History

Museum für Naturkunde Berlin - where you can see a variety of exhibitions, including exotic animals, prehistoric creatures, and even cosmic artifacts! The place houses 25 million historical objects. One of the most famous exhibits is the over 13-meter-long skeleton of the Brachiosaurus brancai dinosaur.

📍Tropical Islands Water Park

Lastly, an attraction that is not strictly located in Berlin but is noteworthy enough to mention. Tropical Island is a recreational and entertainment center covering almost 7 hectares. The center has been operational since December 2004 and is open all week, 24/7! Besides numerous water attractions, impressive slides, a sandy beach, and the largest indoor tropical rainforest in the world, you'll also find interesting accommodation options. Guests can choose from jungle tents, tropical bungalows, as well as apartments and cottages. Additionally, Tropical Island offers camping and hotels.
