How to Make Your Child Love Reading

Reading is vital for the intellectual, emotional, and social development of both children and adults. It positively influences imagination, broadens knowledge, and facilitates a better understanding of the world and others. How can you help your child love reading in an electronics-filled environment?

How to Raise Smart and Happy Kids?

As a parent, I am committed to raising my children well and equipping them with life skills. I want them to grow into happy adults. We strive to eat healthily, engage in sports, and develop ourselves. One common piece of advice for parents is to start reading to children from birth. Establish a bedtime story routine, which helps expand their vocabulary and also offers a time for closeness, conversation, and cuddling.
Reading together is something my now-teenage children remember fondly.
I read to them almost every day for several years, which led me to explore the entire Harry Potter series. I continued even when they were in school, often letting them take over for a page or two.
I'm not sure how it affected their education, but it was a fantastic family time, and even reading for just 10 minutes had a significant impact on our relationships. We could discuss book characters and share inside jokes. All positives.

The Passion for Reading – Is It Harder to Cultivate?

Knowing the benefits of reading, I wanted to replicate this success with my youngest daughter, who is now 3 years old. She loves books, pigs, dogs... but… she quickly became familiar with phones, tablets, and cartoons.
She can turn on Netflix herself and watch her favorite shows. To her, "story" means watching, not reading, and it’s really challenging.
We travel a lot, so a phone or tablet became the perfect "pacifier" for the road, but I soon noticed changes in behavior and reactions to screen time restrictions.
We are now over a week without cartoons, and I know this might provoke mixed reactions. However, it doesn’t mean the end of using phones.

The Best Online Stories for Kids, to Read.

I found an app Readmio that engaged my daughter in the world of books. Initially, I thought it was an e-book format for parents, but there’s an innovation my 3-year-old loved. During reading, at key moments, the app adds sounds related to the story. For example, if a river appears in the story, we can hear the sound of water in a stream; if someone knocks in the story, we hear realistic knocking. These elements help keep a child’s attention longer and spark interest. Additionally, parents can record their voice reading and play it back later.

It’s an excellent way to foster shared reading habits, especially since it offers materials in various languages, and we also use the English version. Give it a try.

The app is free for the first week, with an annual package costing about 12 złotys per month. In the free version, even after the trial period, you receive a daily story as a gift, for free.

I strongly encourage reading to children, whether through paper books or modern apps. Regular reading supports imagination development, vocabulary expansion, and critical thinking skills, making it an invaluable investment in a child’s future.

The material is not sponsored, the app does not pay us for recommendations, but it provides you with a discount code. 😊

Test for Free, Longer!

Use our code to extend your trial period!

With the code  FAJNYCZAS  you get 30 days of free testing.
After installing the app, you’ll find the “Redeem code” option where you can enter the code.

Happy reading!
Let me know if you know of other great apps supporting parents; I’d love to learn about them and share.
