How to Encourage Children and Teens to Read

Children often imitate their parents, so if they see us reading regularly and enjoying it, they will naturally be inclined to pick up books themselves. Our passion for reading will not only be a source of inspiration,
but will also help the child understand that time spent with a book is important and valuable.
Let Your Child Choose!
Encourage your child to choose books independently to explore the vast and diverse world of literature. Books offer endless topics, such as fairy tales, exciting adventures, fascinating animals, thrilling journeys, and much more.
It’s worth encouraging your child to read books, that align with their interests. This way, reading becomes not just a form of entertainment but also a great opportunity to broaden horizons and deepen our passions.
Read to Your Child!
It’s worth instilling a love for books from an early age, even when the child cannot yet read.
Reading aloud is incredibly important! Remember to read in an engaging way - use the right voice intonation and pay attention to punctuation marks. Don’t Demand Too Much!

Go together to the library or bookstore! Full shelves, the smell of old and new books, and the atmosphere in libraries can help the child enjoy reading. Remember, libraries and bookstores organize activities for the youngest, like film screenings, art classes, or joint book readings. Cultivate in your child the need to engage with the beauty of art from a young age.
Also, choose fun books for kids that can make them laugh. Humor will help you relax, and the book will teach through laughter and fun. A well-chosen book offers a full range of emotions, and the choice of genre is entirely up to you.
Create a Reading Space!
Just as you need the right conditions to read a book, your child also needs a suitable space. Provide them with good lighting in the room so that reading is not straining for the eyes. A comfortable chair or beanbag can make reading more enjoyable and comfortable. Additionally, allow the child to read in different places they choose. It could be the garden, the lakeside, or even the car during a trip.
Be Open!
While we encourage learning to read traditional books, we understand that technology also has its place. An e-book is also a book! For a young reader, reading on a tablet might be much more attractive. It’s possible that the approach to technology and reading will change over time, but it’s crucial not to discourage the child from reading. If an e-book makes reading more interesting and accessible for them, it’s definitely worth allowing them to use this form of reading.
