What is a Good Stain Remover? Review of 6 Products
Recently, I dedicated myself to testing 6 popular laundry stain removers to finally unravel the eternal mystery – which one truly fights stubborn stains? I analyzed their effectiveness on different types of stains and fabrics and rated them using a five-star scale. Here’s what I discovered:
1. The Pink Stuff Stain Remover Spray
Price: 12.60 PLN
Rating: ★★★★☆
The Pink Stuff earned a solid 4 stars for its effective stain removal, although the stains didn’t disappear entirely. The product was interesting to use because it was very straightforward. Simply apply the remover to the stain, wait 5 minutes, and then wash the clothing in a standard laundry cycle. It's also worth mentioning that The Pink Stuff had a pleasant scent, without the typical chlorine odor.
2. Ace Colors Liquid Stain Remover
Price: 13.99 PLN
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Ace Colors received 3 stars, meaning it performed averagely, neither impressing nor disappointing. It was decent but didn’t tackle old stains or those created for the test. While using this product, the strong chemical smell was noticeable.
3. Vanish Liquid Stain Remover
Price: 20.00 PLN
Rating: ★★★★☆
Vanish proved to be highly effective, earning 4 stars. It’s one of the top options in the test, especially for effectiveness. The stains on the shirts prepared for the review were barely visible, mainly under sunlight, but Vanish didn’t handle old stains. It had a strong scent, but it wasn’t overwhelming. The product also comes with an interesting cap with special protrusions, useful for scrubbing stains.
4. Passion Gold Powder Stain Remover
Price: 19.99 PLN
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Passion Gold only managed to score 2 stars. Unfortunately, its results left much to be desired. The product can be used in several ways: soaking, applying directly to the stain, or adding a scoop of powder to a standard wash. I tested Passion Gold using the soaking method, which turned out to be ineffective.
5. Gallus Powder Stain Remover
Price: 21.99 PLN
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Like Passion Gold, Gallus also received 2 stars. It wasn’t the best test for effectiveness. I tested the stain remover in the same way as Passion Gold, because here too one can use one of the three methods mentioned above. Again, the product didn’t handle the stains.
6. Domol Gall Soap
Price: 11.29 PLN
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
Gall soap earned only 1 star, unfortunately indicating its low effectiveness in removing stains. The soap barely cleaned any stains. Interestingly, this product is one of the more commonly recommended stain removers.
Summary
There is no clear winner in this test. Vanish and The Pink Stuff seem to be the best in terms of effectiveness, but even they couldn’t handle all stains. Choosing a stain remover depends on the type of stain, fabric, and personal preferences.
