Autumn and Colds - How to Handle Colds in Children? 🍂🤧

What often accompanies autumn besides chestnuts? Anyone sniffling knows – a cold! It's a classic companion of cooler days, especially for children just starting kindergarten or school. And when it starts with a little one, it often "spreads" to the whole family, mom, dad, and everyone around. So how do you handle colds in children while also caring for the rest of the household?

Colds in Children — A Natural Training for Their Bodies 🌿

First and foremost, there's no need to panic! A cold is a natural training for a child's immune system. If it isn't accompanied by a high fever, there's no reason to skip daily walks. Fresh air is actually recommended to support the healing process.

What to Do When a Child Gets Sick? 🤔

Don't force them to eat. If a child loses their appetite, there's no cause for concern. Their body is focusing on fighting the infection, not digestion. Ensure they drink more than usual – drinks rich in vitamin C can boost immunity. Water with lemon and honey (if the child isn't allergic) is an ideal way to hydrate and provide extra vitamins.

Check the warmth of their feet. Cold feet may indicate a lowered body temperature. Turn it into a fun foot massage game and put on warm socks – it will not only warm them up but also improve circulation.

For a sore throat – have fun with gargling! Instead of classic gargling, create a game with gargling chamomile or sage tea. Who can best mimic the sound of boiling water? Invite the whole family to compete!

Home Remedies for a Runny Nose and Cough 🌬️

Inhalations. If a runny nose is bothersome, inhalations are an excellent method. Even without special equipment – a bowl of hot water, with added salt or baking soda, and a few drops of essential oil can help clear the nose. Always supervise the child during inhalations.

Cold ointment. Before bedtime, apply a warming ointment containing essential oils to the child's back and chest. Make sure the child isn't allergic to them.

Don't Forget About Yourself! 🧡

Parents should also take care of their health. An increased dose of vitamin C and inhalations will help you too. In the evening, you might enjoy a back massage with warm ointment – it's a great way to relax and rejuvenate.

Colds Are Temporary - Stay Alert, But Don't Panic 🛌

Remember, colds in children are often temporary, strengthening their immunity. They usually end with a return to health rather than developing into a disease. Observe your child, but stay calm. With proper care and support, the cold will pass quickly, and your little one will be stronger!
