Praděd, Czech Republic - Winter Attractions Even in Spring

Mount Praděd is the highest peak in the High Jeseník range. It is about a 2.5-hour drive from the Katowice area. On site, you will find a prominent observation point and a TV tower, as well as a ski resort with a tourist base.
Praděd for skiing? We recommend it!
You can reach the tourist base (in the national park) - Parkoviště Ovčárna, by bus or car. Remember, there are specific hours for entry and exit, and a fee of 600 CZK (around $25).
There are 9 ski runs of varying difficulty levels – there's something for everyone. You can even try your hand at giant slalom! There is equipment rental and a ski school available on site. The lifts operate from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. A four-hour pass costs 600 CZK (around $25).
Additionally, there are also cross-country skiing trails – a total of 5. The longest ones are: Ovčárna-Vysoká hole-Skřítek (approx. 15 km), Ovčárna-Červenohorské Sedlo (approx. 12 km), and Ovčárna-Karlov (approx. 7 km).

What about those who don't ski or snowboard?
No worries. You definitely won't be bored! From the aforementioned parking lot - Ovčárna, a walking trail departs, leading to the observation point. It's just 3 km and can be completed in about 2 hours.
For those who enjoy real mountain climbing, we recommend taking the entire route from Karlova Studánka - Bílá Opava Valley. However, keep in mind that conditions can be challenging, or for safety reasons, the trail may be closed.

Observation Tower on Praděd
A lookout tower already stood atop the peak in the early 20th century. The stone structure had rooms and a restaurant, and next to it stood a wooden hut. However, the structure did not withstand the harsh weather and collapsed. The current TV tower includes: a radio transmitter, a meteorological station, a hotel, a restaurant, and a viewing terrace. The tower on Praděd is the highest point in the entire Czech Republic, even higher than Śnieżka. The whole structure stands at about 1638 meters above sea level. On a clear day, you can see Śnieżka, which is over 100 km away, and even the Tatras.
